BEATMAKERS: I PRODUCED YOUR SONG
It’s been a while, but I always enjoyed my sit down chats with @JazWilliams.
They always lasted 2-3 hours and I always felt we both walked away feeling inspired. Then again, Jaz always seems inspired, and it shows in his work. He’s always willing to share his experience and knowledge. Here’s just one example:
Jaz’s Word to BEATMAKERS: I PRODUCED YOUR SONG
I have to air this out because I’ve looked on SoundCloud and I’ve listened to records that say (prod by: ***BEATZ). And yet you sent the artist a looped beat with just muted instruments on the verses. there are no changes in your song. No intro. No breaks. No ending. Matter fact you weren’t even in the studio when the vocals were recorded.
That said I’m in here manipulating your beat. Putting arrangements to it. Moving parts of the beat around. Creating intros. TAKING YOUR TAGS OUT (which was covertly instructed for me to do by the artist most times). Creating or fading an outtro. Then I have to work with the artist on developing their writing and vocals on the track. Also arrange harmonies if necessary. And then I might sing a hook myself.
If you are a producer, you understand how to complete records and develop artists. And there are only a chosen few I can vouch for. If you are in your room just making beats and not seeing the record through. You are not a producer in my book. You are a beatmaker or midi programmer. Plain and simple.
